Boilermaker+Democrat+the act or fact of coming together
Welcome to Boilercrat Junction!
When the idea to create a blog started to form in my head I realized there were a couple of different features and ideas and goals I wanted it to have.
As a pinko socialist firebreathing America hater fascist babykiller democrat and a Boilermaker I grew increasingly frustrated that progressives had no established voice to combat what conservatives have in the Purdue Review (an ultra-conservative rag published monthly-ish) and college fascists the Conservative Coalition for American Values where they attack Obama for his opposition to Section 2 of Article 1 of the U.S. Constitution (prior to the 14th amendment) and, of course, call him a Hitlery terror-loving terrorist. This is my place (and yours) to respond to that bullshit.
I also thought about how, when I was 18, I used to go to the weekly meetings of the GLBT group at Ball State University. It strikes me now as phenomenal that those weekly meetings could regularly have 50, 60, even 70 or more people in attendance every time. The reason for this, I now realize, was the close and meaningful relationships the group leadership made a point to make and encouraged members to make with other campus groups. I recently told Boiler Green Initiative's incoming president, my friend Carmen Martin, that as a candidate for PCD Vice President I told people that "we work to elect democrats because we want to see real positive change in our communities, so when we're not working on an election we need to be working towards those changes we want to see". I hope student organizations will frequent this site, write guest columns and that my updates on these groups and their meetings/events/needs/etc. will be informative and helpful.
Those are the main, solid, categorical parts of this blog I think I have figured out right now but will surely see some tweaks as it changes just like every blog does. You should also expect to find group and individual rants, political news and commentary from every level (community-national), and whatever else I think is important or that my (right now hypothetical) loyal followers will enjoy.
